The Wandering Sanctuary

A cutting-edge mobile sensory room bringing specialised support directly to people with autism and sensory needs

Our Story

Born from lived experience and a passion for sensory inclusion

The Wandering Sanctuary wasn't dreamed up in a boardroom; it was born through experience. Our founder Freya grew up navigating a world that is often too loud, too bright, and overwhelmingly overstimulating. She suffered a major autistic burnout and spent several years as an inpatient where she learned firsthand the life-changing power of a dedicated sensory space. Once out of hospital she saw how difficult these spaces are to access.

She realised that if people can't easily access the calm they need, we need to put that calm on wheels and bring it to them. Wandering Sanctuary CIC exists to ensure no neurodiverse individual or family is left isolated by a lack of accessible environments.

Building a haven of calm

The Wandering Sanctuary is moving swiftly from vision to reality.  With our CIC foundations firmly in place and our initial seed funding raised, we are now focusing on designing and procuring a partner to build our first mobile sensory room, and raising money through grants. Every milestone brings us one step closer to delivering accessible decompression spaces straight to Devon’s school gates and village greens.
